September Re-tightening::Bunching Update, 2nd Retie with New Consultant

I asked myself how did I skip my August re-tightening post...then saw it in the draft, then remembered that I made a change that was totally my fault and I ended up editing my August post and it auto-saved, so I just took it down...sigh. Then I just looked and realized my September post was never posted. I have been full steam in a very productive season and I am now in a small lull. Quick Recap: I am seeing a new consultant (watch this video to learn why). On to September Age of my Locs: 1 year, 10 months, 10 days (or 22 months 10 days) Weeks since last retie: 5 weeks Length of retie:  8.5 hours...this has been the biggest adjustment to switching consultants. For those of you doing research on Sisterlocks, know that that timeframe is extremely high. I am used to 3-3.5 hours. Slippage/Bunching/Loc Repair: My super soft temple area locs, and only 2 from the nape area! Whoot!Whoot! The majority of my nape locs have made it through 2 re-tightenings! More about bunching:

3D Microblading on Dark Skin::Day by Day Journal (Days 06-10) with Pictures

Day 06-10::June 6-10 Journal I woke up on day 06 and there is some flaking off on the tail and head of my right eyebrow. In addition to Alena (artbrows.com) explaining the healing process to me, I had an idea of what to expect from researching the procedure and reading/watching other people's experiences. I think the picture below is very accurate (and cute!). Note: I do not own the copyright to the following image. The source is listed in the caption below. Source: http://www.boulderbrows.com/faq/

3D Microblading on Dark Skin::Day by Day Journal (Days 01-05) with Pictures

Day 0::May 31st, 2017 Immediate Aftercare Routine Part 1: Wipe gently with a cotton round dampened with distilled water. Apply Ointment. (Every 15 minutes for 2 hours) Immediate Aftercare Routine Part 2: Wipe gently with a cotton round dampened with distilled water. Apply Ointment. (Every 30 minutes for 2 hours) Note: Alena said I had a lot of lymph (lymphatic fluid), so she had me wipe/apply ointment every 15 minutes for the first 2 hours. She typically just has people wipe/apply ointment every 30 minutes for the first 4 hours. The ointment was given to me. I came in a tiny container that had the Phi Brows logo on it. Colour- I am not sure exactly what colour pigment she used (either "Arabian Night" or "Brown") but she added a red pigment ("Warm Effect") to keep the pitment from becoming cool/ashy. Overnight I did bump my left eyebrow with the back of my hand. I woke up in a panic LOL. I am a back sleeper. Day 01-05::June 1-5 Journal Afte

Off Topic::I have some what I think to be HUGE NEWS!

And no, I am not pregnant. For the record, any HUGE news I announce will NEVER be me being pregnant. We have 2 and we are done. I literally threw up the "deuces" as Superman would say, after I typed done LOL! And before you give me that line, "You don't know what the Lord has in store for you!" Well, neither do you 😝 LOL! He knows the desires of my heart. On to what I think is HUGE NEWS... I am going to get my eyebrows MICROBLADED! For anyone who has never heard of this technique, let me insert a blurb that you can pull from just about any and every website (source: artbrows.com) What is Microblading? Microblading, also known as microstroking, or simply blading, is an exciting new method of applying semi-permanent makeup that produces thicker, fuller eyebrows! My 3D hair stroke technique is accomplished using a special hand tool and very fine needles which deposit pigment only into the upper region of the dermis. The result is a stunning and beautiful

Length: I feel like my hair is tarting to hang a little bit more lately; especially when it is "straight." I define "straight" as not being curled and also having been in large braids (my typical workout style is 1-2 Dutch or French braids) that have left my hair with a very loose wave. Fullness: no major changes Buds: I am seeing more and more buds! And the ones that I have had for a while are looking more established. Loc Style for Short/Medium Locs- Chauncey

I lost my voice last week! I was at one point only able to whisper. But I thank The Lord for restoring my voice. I recorded a video tutorial last night for the style featured in today's post. I was able to add in one of my new pieces of hair candy and it really gave the overall style some "umph!" For those of you who are contemplating locs of any starting and maintenance method, rest assured that your styling options are only limited by your imagination...or pictures from the internet-sphere LOL! I style my locs WAYYY more than I ever styled my loose natural hair. I kept my hair in protective and/or low manipulation styles and didn't really experiment with my hair. I achieved length , but at the cost of enjoying my hair. I am making it a point to enjoy my hair and a huge part of that is styling.

February 2017 Sisterlocks Re-tightening (1 Year, 2 Months)

My February re-tightening was Friday, February 3, 2017. Here's the video of my fresh and clean grid. Age of my Locs: 1 year, 2 month, 22 days (or 64 weeks, 1 day) Weeks since last retie: 5 weeks Length of retie:  3 hours Slippage/Bunching/Loc Repair: My temple and nape locs we re-established. Length: no major changes Fullness: no major changes Buds: no major changes Sealed ends: none Other noteworthy items The locs I  accidentally cut :  all 7, plus an additional 2 were re-established/established...AND ONLY 1 SURVIVED since my last retie, so they were re-re-established Are any of my locs fully locked? Nope My consultant gave me the green light to use a small amount of light oil on my scalp if it gets dry. I must admit- I am concerned on this subjective term and how I might interpret the amount. So unless it is really dry on a consistent basis- I will hold off on using oils. I also picked up a great smelling conditioning spray!

Formal Style for Sisterlocks

I recorded this style for my Loc Style Series for Short/Medium Locs   yet, but I plan to re-record it. (I loaned a half of my camera setup to Batman for a science project. The only other angle I was able to achieve for recording didn't do the style justice, and the top of my head was out of frame) I am naming this style Amelia- she is as humble as she is breathtakingly gorgeous. I have been playing with the new hair candy I purchased and am challenging myself to create at least 2 more formal/bridal/prom styles with my locs. And in case you are wondering. The nine (9) locs from my nape that were re-established didn't survive their first shampoo- slippage is REAL LOL! This is typical for my nape hair which can be most closely categorized as 3b hair. So what you see in the pictures are a few corn rows I added to give a bit more neatness to the look. If I leave that hair loose- I will end up going to a barber and cutting it off, thus restarting the "cut off, grow out, r

Hair Ornaments for Sisterlocks

I am not a girly-girl, but I do like my bling! Check out these inexpensive hair accessories I picked up from Amazon!  Note: This is not a sponsored post. Just working to proactively answer the question, "What is the exact link for the hair jewelry?" I picked these particular hair clips/hair jewelry pieces because they seem to be pretty "safe" for my locks. By safe, I mean that if worn minimally, they shouldn't poke any holes in my still juvenile Sisterlocks.  I haven't received the first ornament shown (which I think is my favourite) yet, but of the other three, I have only worn the pearly pronged ornament. It was a hit and I received rave reviews! So far, they are MUCH bigger than I imagined. (Especially the purple and black ones (same seller/company)...MUCH bigger!) The black one I received looks "old" as if it has been in the bottom of a box somewhere, but you get what you pay for and it's still pretty! I will be attending
