Locs, Sweat and Heels- My Sisterlocks Journey

I put all the high needs, high wants, low needs, low wants into a table, weighted each category and then selected the consultant that met my criterion. I know...I know...everyone's locs are unique. And however my locs turn out, I will love them. Self hair-love notwithstanding, these crochet twists are giving me "errythang!" I have always been attracted to voluminous hair that moves and has a slightly wild vibe. If I could wave a miracle-working hair wand, I would want my locs to mature similar to how my hair is pictured in this post. I am wearing my absolute favorite shoe- the Jessica Simpson "Josette" in metallic purple.

So...my Mother is old-school southern superstitious about certain things. Hair is towards the top of the list. Here is a quick run-down and please comment if you have ever heard, adhered to or have any additions. Never throw your hair away- always burn it to keep "birds from making a nest out of your hair." Never let ANYONE (grade school photographers, classmates, heck- even The POPE) "play" with/in your hair. If you were not my Mother- you didn't touch my hair. Period. NEVER LET TWO PEOPLE TOUCH YOUR HAIR AT THE SAME TIME- YOUR HAIR WILL FALL OUT! I have only been to a "braiding shop" once and one person worked on my hair. The experience was horrible and I won't hijack this post to talk about everything that went wrong. That being said, while I never understood these things, especially items 1 and 3, I diligently adhered to these threats/warnings/rules. I am choosing to partner with an active, certified consultant for the following reasons: If I am paying for the brand name- I want the whole shebang. Superman is NOT going to be happy if I come home with not-quite-Sisterlocks, but I paid quite-a-deal-of-Sisterlocks money. Certification, in general, means that the person has gone above/beyond to have their work/knowledge tested. When I was working in my academic field, a certification made you more valuable because it implied you took extra time to learn and maintain a skillset. I realise this won't be the case for EVERY consultant, but I have to start somewhere. Aside from those two things, I also am looking for the following items in a consultant: Salon environment I would rather have someone else shampoo/braid/bundle my hair prior to re-tightening services; at least in the beginning. I am not going to put my head in someone's kitchen sink. Period. Consistent business hours- since I will be driving from a distanc

I wore my hair in this style for the majority of August. And it held up to daily (and on most days, twice daily) exercise. When I heard back from my consultant, she asked how long was my hair. I really had no idea, but I said that it was probably between 5-7 inches.   Here is a run-down of my hair length as of September 6th 9pm (inches): Front: 6 3/4 Crown: 6 1/2 Left: 6 1/2 Right: 6 3/4 Nape: 5 1/4 Huge shout out to Superman for holding yarn to my strands in various places and then helping me lay the yarn against a ruler for these measurements. In instances where the measurement was in between, I rounded DOWN. These were taken on dirty, stretched hair post crochet weave take-down. I haven't had my ends trimmed since I stopped getting haircuts. I have already paid my deposit and just received email confirmations for the three appointments included in the standard Sisterlocks Package. I am thankful to work with a professional who keeps a calendar. She uses an online booking system, so I can check for openings for re-ties and book them as far out as I like to fit my schedule. On another note, I went to a local store and purchased a Turbie Twist based off Blaqkofi's recommendation . From what I've read, this product is made from microfiber and will help me to avoid lint.  I really wanted the brown/leopard print I saw online since my hair is a color "2" on the weave color chart.
