- Age of my Locs: 1 year, 3 month, 26 days (or 69 weeks)
- Weeks since last retie: 5 weeks
- Length of retie: 3.5 hours
- Slippage/Bunching/Loc Repair: My super soft temple area locs, a few of the nape locs and the one leading into my right sideburn were re-established.
- Length: I feel like my hair is tarting to hang a little bit more lately; especially when it is "straight."
- I define "straight" as not being curled and also having been in large braids (my typical workout style is 1-2 Dutch or French braids) that have left my hair with a very loose wave.
- Fullness: no major changes
- Buds: I am seeing more and more buds! And the ones that I have had for a while are looking more established. I haven't seen any that have begun the "shoot" up my loc shaft(s) yet.
- Sealed ends: none
- Other noteworthy items
- I mist my hair as needed with filtered water mixed with peppermint and lavender essential oils.
- Although last month my consultant gave me the go-ahead to use "light oil" on my scalp- I haven't used any oils on my scalp or my hair.
- Weekly Shampoos: Due to slippage, I have been shampooing only once between re-tightenings, but I recently increased my exercise frequency and my hair needs to be shampooed more often to maintain cleanliness. Side note: Yes, people with locs can/should shampoo their hair.
- My consultant said that it would be fine to shampoo weekly- and to continue to braid and band.
- Sea Salt Water Misting: I asked my consultant what are the benefits of sea salt water misting. She said that the sea salt is supposed to roughen the cuticle to encourage the locking process. I am not ready to begin misting my hair. I may bring it up at my next re-tightening.
- Swimming: She said to corn row my hair down and that I can forgo a cap...and of course to shampoo afterwards to remove the chlorine from my hair.
