Off Topic::I have some what I think to be HUGE NEWS!

And no, I am not pregnant. For the record, any HUGE news I announce will NEVER be me being pregnant. We have 2 and we are done. I literally threw up the "deuces" as Superman would say, after I typed done LOL! And before you give me that line, "You don't know what the Lord has in store for you!" Well, neither do you 😝 LOL! He knows the desires of my heart.

On to what I think is HUGE NEWS...I am going to get my eyebrows MICROBLADED!

For anyone who has never heard of this technique, let me insert a blurb that you can pull from just about any and every website (source: artbrows.com)

What is Microblading?

Microblading, also known as microstroking, or simply blading, is an exciting new method of applying semi-permanent makeup that produces thicker, fuller eyebrows! My 3D hair stroke technique is accomplished using a special hand tool and very fine needles which deposit pigment only into the upper region of the dermis. The result is a stunning and beautiful set of natural looking eyebrows!

Microblading vs Permanent Makeup

Unlike permanent makeup which offers a simulated appearance, microblading provides a far more natural looking result. Even better, because the eyebrow embroidery procedure is semi-permanent makeup, you can update your eyebrows as styles change every few years.

Why am I choosing to have someone take a row of micro-needles to my face?!

I want to have a wake up and go lifestyle. I want to look pulled together at the gym (not trying to impress anyone- it's a women's only facility), swimming pool, random family candid pictures, etc.
I want to have symmetrical and "perfect" brows that won't rub off if I sweat in the humid weather that live in almost year round.
I want to have the same freedom I have with my brows as I have with my hair- always "done."

Am I nervous about the pain?
Not really- most if not all studios offer numbing cream. Here is a breakdown of my pain experience

  • I have delivered 2 babies via pitocin-induced labors with no epidural by choice
  • 3 tattoos
  • 4-5 Brazillian waxes in my lifetime

That being said- I think I will be okay, but who knows how it will feel.

Am I worried about finding the "right" person?
Worried? No, but I did make a decision chart and chose a technician/artist who I feel is a good match for me. Factors were: location, experience, online reviews from clients, pictures of women of color on social media, availability via online booking and cost. From my initial interaction with her, my technician/artist is pleasant and has excellent customer service!

Who did I choose?
Alena Rudnitskaya of Art Brows, LLC (artbrows.com @artbrowsllc on Instagram)

What am I concerned about?
  • The healing process- my skin is melanin-rich and oily; the pigment uptake could be an issue. I have seen a Youtube video wherein which the women said their artists did the first pass without numbing cream to get better results- so I am going to ask about that.
  • The right color. My hair is a 2 on the color scale...I don't want black eyebrows.
  • Not getting my brows wet in the shower. Taking lukewarm showers. I love a hot steamy shower.
  • Looking crazy during the healing phase- I have a few events that will be in the first 3-4 days post service. I already have the date booked, so I am just going to go with it and pray I don't become a meme LOL!
  • Going stir crazy because I won't be able to work out for 10-14 days after the service. I have gone to the gym for YEARS on average of 4-6 days a week. I occasionally do "two-a-days" and I get a little restless when I miss my gym time (aka sweat therapy) due to school breaks, travelling, injuries.

How long have I wanted to have this service performed?
Wow! I can recall first reading about microblading when it was more commonly called feather stroking about 10 years ago! All the "great" places seemed to have been in California at the time, so it became a wishful thinking item and I learned how to fill in my brows with powder and gels. That was a huge learning curve. I have gotten better, but I am not a makeup maven, so on days I don't fill in my brows (i.e. 5-6 days a week) there is a noticeable difference.

What happened to the eyebrows God gave me?
I have a scar in one of my brows- thanks to a swing hitting me when I was about 2 years old. And in general, they never grew in thick. They were perhaps a little thicker when I was younger...or maybe my face was just smaller and they are the same size? That's what happened with my teeth- I had to grow into them LOL!

So, despite having a decent amount of hair on my head, the rest of my body is a little less than average for hair. I shave my legs once a month, but no one would ever guess that. Well, now everyone reading this  knows, but I digress.

Stay tuned! My appointment is May 31st!
